Conditions Associated Due to Irregular Grooming Practices
Please note, the content in this section is to simply provide transparency of the conditions we have seen in pets due to lack of grooming. our facility is a judgement free facility and we are always delighted to help guide you with advise on coat/skin care, proper tools and techniques to help avoid potential conditions from arising. some of these conditions may not be avoidable due to the pet's condition.
Matting, Pelting, Tangling, and/or Impaction Of Your Pet's Coat
Often times, almost daily we groom pets with heavy matting/tangling, pelting and impacted coats.
Unfortunately in most cases, these pets must be shaved to remove these coat conditions to avoid further discomfort to your pet. We do offer light dematting/detangling and in rare cases, impactions of double coats may be reversed however this unfortunately is not always the case.
To avoid such instances where shaving your pet is necessary, regular brushing and combing with the proper tools and techniques will make a huge difference.
We understand that while you may put in the effort at home to brush and comb your pet's coat, unfortunately we see where the pet is improperly brushed/combed where the undercoat is not maintained. As you can see from the photo examples provided, matting/tangling/pelting/impaction develops in the undercoat closest to the skin.
In many breeds, often breeds where Poodle is mixed with a double coated breed, this is often a common trait with the doodle breeds.
Below are the tools we offer and have found to do the most justice as long as they are used properly and regularly to maintain your pet's coat.
If you are wanting length, a solid home coat care routine is crucial.
We sell combs at Bark Avenue as well as Brushes to help you maintain.
Ear Hematoma
Ear Hematomas may arise during any event where the blood vessel in the ear flap breaks. This can be caused by shaking of the head where the ears are flapping against the head causing trauma. Ear infections, removing tangling/matting, rough play, etc. can contribute to the development of Ear Hematoma.
In some cases, the tips of the ears may express blood as if they have been cut/nicked however similar to a blister, the Hematoma will open shaking persists.
Ways to avoid the head shaking is to prevent ears infections and/or treat them immediately. If the head shaking is associated with a recent grooming visit, chances are the dog had matting, tangling, pelting and/or impaction in which can be prevented by simply thoroughly combing and brushing you dog
